DescriptionCofradía huipiles are often made to be worn over a normal daily huipil, and for this reason they are larger. This oversized blouse comes from the village of Todos Santos Chuchumatan in the department of Huehuetenango. As with many other ceremonial pieces, there is an abundance of decoration adorning this red, pink, and purple striped huipil, including velvet trim and metallic lace. The symbols woven into the huipil include animals and the diamond-shaped cosmogram, a Maya icon representing the universe with the home in the center surrounded by the house-lot or garden. On View
