    DescriptionThis dish, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze enamels, is widely appreciated as an early example of Imari, which was produced at the Arita kilns. This ceramic type was highly popular and its exportation to Europe commenced in the late 17th century when Chinese ceramic production fell off sharply due to the war between the Manchus and the Chinese Ming. Production at the Jingdezhen kilns picked up sharply after 1683. Japanese Imari was so popular that the Chinese imitated the decoration, called Chinese Imari, and shipped it to Europe until the 1730s.
