DescriptionThis coffee of chocolate pot is executed in a whimsical style that was extremely popular in the English market, from where it was transshipped to the English colonies in America. The design includes a Chinese style pagoda on a terrace with a willow tree near a river or possibly a lake. The style probably inspired what the Europeans would term "Willow Ware." The vogue for Chinese ceramics started as early as the 16th century with major collections being gathered by European royal families and the wealthy to decorate their homes. This rage for things Chinese is called Chinoiserie, which reached its zenith in the first quarter of the 18th century. On View
