DescriptionThis colorful screen print is one of Andy Warhol’s last graphics, made in 1987, the year that Warhol died. It is a composite of two NASA photographs of Buzz Aldren walking on the moon for the first time in 1969, an event televised around the world. The work was to be part of a portfolio which would illustrate ten events and/or programs in television history, such as Martin Luther King’s “ I have a dream” speech and “I Love Lucy." Of the series, only Moonwalk was completed. In his screen prints of the 1960s, Warhol, whose name is synomous with Pop Art, intuitively focused on the most important contemporary events and people of the decade. In the late 1980s he once again returned to the 1960s to record historic images.
