DescriptionTraditional pantalones worn by Maya men are made from white cotton sewn together from four separate pieces front to back. The simplicity of this particular garment suggests it was not a ceremonial piece, but rather one of everyday use. The typical pinstripe motif is incorporated here, done in a plain navy blue. The majority of the work was probably done on a floor-loom while the embroidery detail at the bottom of the legs was added by hand. The full-length pant would have been secured using a cinturon, or belt. The bright green, pink, magenta, turquoise, and purple color scheme is a signature of textiles done in this region which became much more elaborate throughout the remainder of the 20th century.
