DescriptionThe Yoruba potter begins by paddling the bottom of the pot over a mold. After the bottom half is removed from the mold and dried briefly in the sun, she completes the pot by adding a thick coil of clay, forming it into shape walking backward as she works. The Yoruba are known for the rich variety of their surface embellishments.
