DescriptionThe compound head uses a handsomely carved wooden tray to cut up meat to serve to family members. When not in use the tray is stored on its side so that the decorated bottom may be seen and admired. The most typical design is amasumpa, similar to the bump patterns found on beer pots. The wood is blackened by charring with a hot iron.
