    DescriptionMaya craftsmen were able to polish small mosaic pieces of pyrite to a high sheen and by piecing them together, create a reflective mirror. Mirrors were part of many ceremonies and may have been a tool for royal members of society to communicate with their ancestors. Worn as a pendant over the chest of a ruler, most of the pyrite is still adhered to the slate backing of this large mirror.
