DescriptionThis mask was supposedly collected in Maniema, a state in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is very much like Lega masks in style and most closely matches their idiumu, a large mask that is displayed, not worn, in spite of its eye openings. The only aspect of this mask that does not fit the idiumu identity is the fact that it is not painted white. This may be some sort of variation on the idiumu, or may be from a peripheral Lega group.- Art of Africa
