DescriptionThis figure may be identified as male not just because of its genitals, beard, and lack of breasts, but also by the cap, which lies like a crescent draped over the top of its head. It is the cloth cap with rolled back ear-flaps worn by family elders. Nummo, primordial ancestors, are described as possessing characteristics of both genders so the fact that the gender of this figure is clearly identifiable supports its use on an individual's or family's altar.
