DescriptionThis stool form is typical of Mande and Voltaic peoples of the Western Sudan. The base refers to a house façade with an opening suggesting a typical Islamic horseshoe-shaped arched doorway or window. Because it is so ornately carved, this stool may have belonged to a religious or secular political leader.- Art of Africa
